Dr. Howard Gurr is psychologist who has been practicing on Long Island, New York for 40 years. He has been working with children and adults who were experiencing anxiety, depression, and adjustment disorders. He recognized the benefits of Virtual Reality Therapy over 20 years ago but was unable to introduce the technology into his small solo practice because of its exorbitant cost. Then in 2015, the time came. Dr. Gurr was introduced to Psious (now called Amelia Virtual Care) and their use of cell phone technology to deliver VR to patients. He has been using VR in his practice ever since. He is also currently an “ambassador” for Amelia Virtual Care in the US market.

In addition to Amelia Virtual Care, Dr. Gurr has used other behavioral health apps, self-made VR environments, and readily available 360 videos to help his patients overcome phobias and anxieties. He has been promoting the use of VR in the media to other professionals and participated in webinars on the use of VR and beta testing systems for Virtual Reality mental health companies. Dr. Gurr also developed a worldwide online directory of VR practitioners to help promote VR to the public, provide a site for patients to locate VR therapists near them help VR therapists communicate with one another and refer patients to one another (www.vrtherapistsinternational.com).
